Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic also a speaker who is Canadian. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency a website that hosts videos and commentary analyzing depictions of women's roles in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and American feminist media critique. Feminist Frequency is a site dedicated to education, which examines women's positions in the pop culture narratives, is her brainchild. She also serves as the executive director. Aiming to dispel the myths related to women in popular culture, she also works to address issues relating to harassing women targeted by the media and others online. Sarkeesian who has an MA in Political and Social Thinking in the field of social and political thought from York University, is a well-known public speaker. She has spoken at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. Inquiring about gender identities and feminisms from an early age she launched her website Feminist Frequency in 2009 while studying at the University. This ambitious woman planned to create an online program that would examine the role of gender in games but was the target of an online campaign to harass her. The attack did be a deterrent, but it was a boost to her determination as a feminist media critic. She has won numerous awards to recognize her prominent contributions to the field of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winner for her work as a journalist. She is also the director and founder of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit group that focuses on pop-culture gender representations.
